FBR Uncovers Rs9.41bn Wealth Fraud, Registers Money Laundering Cases
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) uncovered a Rs9.41 billion fraud where 85 taxpayers illegally revised wealth statements between March 2025 and June 2026 to add previously undeclared cash, physical gold, prize bonds, and properties for tax years 2014-2019. These revisions were made beyond the legally permitted five-year period from the original return due date. A criminal case under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2010, has been registered against a taxpayer who used fictitious funds to account for properties worth Rs64.41 million. This enforcement action highlights FBR's efforts against illicit wealth, which could foster greater financial transparency in Pakistan.
