Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman announced the third phase of protests against the petroleum levy, calling it an "extortion tax" and demanding its abolition. The party plans sit-ins and demonstrations at over 150 locations, threatening a long march to Islamabad if the government fails to provide relief. Naeem-ur-Rehman stated motorists pay Rs130 in taxes per litre of petrol, including an Rs80 levy, asserting prices could drop by over Rs100 if taxes were removed. This widespread protest against economic burdens could heighten political uncertainty, potentially influencing investor sentiment towards the Pakistani Rupee and local gold demand.
