Pakistan Defers Digital Bill; Digital Economy Eyes $60-80B GDP Boost
The National Assembly Standing Committee on IT deferred the Electronic Transactions Amendment Bill, 2026, as the government seeks consensus with the PPP. Separately, the Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) presented a National Digital Master Plan, projecting digital transformation could add USD 60-80 billion to Pakistan's GDP over the next five years. The committee also voiced frustration over persistent poor internet services nationwide, with the PTA citing power outages and stay orders against penalties for operators. While the bill's deferral has no immediate market impact, the long-term digital economy projections could positively influence Pakistan's economic outlook, potentially strengthening the PKR over time.
