Govt Signals LPG Price Hike to Rs450-500/kg Amid Winter Spot Purchases
Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced the government's plan to resort to spot market LPG purchases to meet surging winter demand, which could push retail prices to Rs450-500 per kg. This increase is attributed to international spot market premiums of USD 300-400 per tonne over Saudi Aramco CP, translating to a landed cost of Rs450-500 per kg. The government is also reforming the LPG sector with competitive auctions and transparent import mechanisms. This significant rise in a key energy commodity's price could fuel domestic inflation, potentially impacting the USD/PKR exchange rate and increasing local demand for gold as an inflation hedge.
