Govt to Restore Rs80/Litre Petroleum Levy for Fiscal Stability
The Finance Ministry's adviser confirmed the government's intention to restore the petroleum levy (PL) to its budgeted Rs80 per litre on petrol and diesel. This move aims to prevent a revenue shortfall, curb the fiscal deficit, and maintain fiscal stability, especially as international oil prices ease. The levy was temporarily reduced to shield consumers from rising global prices. This fiscal measure, by bolstering government revenues and fiscal health, could provide some stability to the Pakistani Rupee against the US Dollar.

مشیر خزانہ نے تصدیق کی ہے کہ حکومت پٹرول اور ڈیزل پر پٹرولیم لیوی (PL) کو بتدریج 80 روپے فی لیٹر تک بحال کرے گی۔ اس اقدام کا مقصد محصولات کے اہداف پورے کرنا، مالیاتی خسارے کو کم کرنا اور مالیاتی استحکام کو یقینی بنانا ہے، خاص طور پر جب بین الاقوامی تیل کی قیمتیں کم ہو رہی ہیں۔ یہ لیوی عارضی طور پر صارفین کو عالمی قیمتوں میں اضافے سے بچانے کے لیے کم کی گئی تھی۔ یہ مالیاتی اقدام، حکومتی محصولات اور مالی صحت کو مضبوط بنا کر، پاکستانی روپے اور امریکی ڈالر کے تبادلے کی شرح میں کچھ استحکام لا سکتا ہے۔
