Pakistan Weekly Inflation Jumps 9.29% on Food, Fuel Prices
Pakistan's short-term inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), surged by 9.29% year-on-year for the week ending August 4, primarily due to rising costs of edible oil and wheat flour. Week-on-week, the index increased by 0.28%, with petroleum price hikes also contributing to higher transportation and food costs. A government committee reviewed inflation trends and ordered a nationwide survey of loose food items after 36% of packaged food samples failed quality standards. Persistent high inflation could further pressure the Pakistani Rupee, potentially supporting local gold prices.
