Impact on Gold India's Sensex Hits 32-Month Low Amid Oil Surge, Capital Exodus
India's Sensex index fell 1.44% to 71,593.24, marking its lowest close in 32 months, while the Nifty 50 dropped 1.64%. The decline was driven by Brent crude surging 4% to over $104 a barrel, rising global bond yields, and the Reserve Bank of India's 25 basis point rate hike to 5.5% to combat inflation. Foreign investors offloaded a net $4.86 billion in nine days, bringing year-to-date outflows to a record $30.4 billion, underscoring fears of prolonged pressure on Indian equities. This regional economic stress and high oil prices could increase safe-haven demand for gold and potentially pressure regional currencies, including the PKR.
