A Reuters poll of economists indicates India's inflation likely reached 5.4% in September, a notable rise from August's 4.82%. This acceleration is primarily attributed to surging oil prices, alongside broader energy and food cost increases. Economists noted clearer evidence of energy prices spilling over into wider consumer price index components beyond just transport. Persistent inflationary pressures in the region, fueled by high crude oil, could support gold's appeal as an inflation hedge and signal potential cost pressures for Pakistan's economy.
